The Best Vinyl Record Storage Solutions

I have always been a huge fan of vinyl records. There is just something so unique about their sound, texture, and sound. Eventually, it came time for me to organize my records. I scoured the market and whittled down the options to the best of the best. Here, I present my favorite storage solutions for those that want to keep vinyl records spinning into the future.

KAIU Vinyl Record Storage Holder

Minimalistic meets functional

The KAIU Vinyl Record Storage Holder is a natural favorite because it looks beautiful, is available in six colors, and lets you flip through your records, just like in the old days.
Best Overall

This holder from KAIU was my favorite because it is a beautiful display but still very functional and portable. The acrylic ends are tilted, so you can experience the old feeling of flipping through the titles at a record store when you own this record holder.

While using this holder, I really felt like I was about to discover something new, although I’ve listened to each album at least a hundred times. This is my favorite holder because it helps me feel excited about my collection again and I know it will last for many years to come.

Pros:

  • Holds up to 50 7 or 12-inch albums to hold your whole collection
  • It comes in six colors to blend in beautifully with the rest of your decor
  • The acrylic ends are shatterproof and break-resistant in case of an earthquake or excitable friend

Cons:

  • You have to assemble this holder, although I found it slid together easily in a few minutes
  • The Natural color wood is unfinished but could be easily stained

Novogratz Concord Turntable Stand

Nothing beats the classics

The Novogratz Concord Turntable Stand can be a display shelf, turnstile stand, and record holder all-in-one while still looking amazing in your home.
Best Classic Design

Find on Amazon

If you want a record holder that will be functional and look nice in your living room, this is the one. You can store albums at the bottom and put anything on the large shelf – or choose to use it as a drawer instead.

There are several configurations available, but I chose the turntable stand with the cavity because I wanted to show off both my records and a few of my vintage collectible trucks on the top shelf.

Pros:

  • The stand is available with or without drawers, and in 3 sizes to fit any space
  • Mid-century style is classy and available in four colors to complement your decor
  • This stand is functional because it provides storage for your records as well as a home for the turntable

Cons:

  • Assembly is required but I was able to put it together by myself with just a screwdriver
  • It’s 78 pounds, and the box arrives flat but is a bit awkward to carry alone

Crosley AC1004A-BK Record Storage Crate

Let's go back to the basics

The Crosley Record Storage Crate is the best crate on the market, holding up to 75 albums.

Remember Crosley from back in the day? I fell in love with this crate because it’s branded with their logo, bringing back all the feels. I was happy to find out this crate can hold up to 75 albums

Pros:

  • This comes in 13 colors including special designs showcasing the Beatles, so you can choose whether it should mix in or stand out
  • There are handles to carry the crate and it’s only 2.5 pounds, so you can easily take it over to a friend’s house without any awkward maneuvering
  • Finished solid wood makes the crate look a little old school without being tacky

Cons:

  • Assembly is required but was a cinch with the pre-drilled holes
  • A few of the screws that were supposed to be included were missing

Umbra Zine Magazine Rack & Record Holder

Rack it up, stack it up

The Umbra Zine Magazine Rack and Record Holder is a naturally cool design that can be used as a stand or a wall rack.
Best Rack

Find on Amazon

Umbra is a brand that’s known for its functional but refined design, and this holder is no exception. The hexagonal metal wire is tastefully arranged to fit magazines or records, and the titanium finish helps keep it neutral.

I ended up buying a pack of four racks and ran out of records to display so I used the last one for magazines.

Pros:

  • This holder is versatile and can be used freestanding or as a wall-mounted rack
  • Mounting hardware is included so you don’t have to waste time trying to find the right screws
  • This holder feels durable and sturdy, so it will have no problem holding multiple records

Cons:

  • I was only able to fit about 17 records in each rack but since I bought multiple racks it was no problem

Snap-N-Store Vinyl Record Storage Case with Lid

Snap, stack, and store away

The Snap-N-Store Vinyl Record Storage Case with Lid is lightweight, easy to put together, and strong enough to hold a lot of records.
Best Case

Find on Amazon

These vinyl record storage cases come in classic colors like black and white but also in a neat tie-dye design. Each case weighs around 4 pounds so they’re easy to tote around.

Unlike weak cardboard cases, these are made from PVC plastic that seems very sturdy without being too heavy to carry around.

Pros:

  • These boxes come folded and are easy to store flat and then snap together when in use
  • Chrome snaps on the corners ensure that the box will last a long time so you won’t have to replace it in a month
  • I was able to fit 75 records in this box without having to take them out of their sleeves and original covers

Cons:

  • While these don’t have edges or slots to make them stackable, I felt comfortable stacking 3 boxes together to save space

Frequently Asked Questions

How should vinyl records be stored?

Vinyl records should always be stored in an upright position to ensure they stay in good condition. Avoid storing them stacked on top of one another because the weight could lead to the vinyl warping, cracking, or having scuff marks.

What is the ideal room temperature for vinyl record storage?

Try to keep your vinyl records at room temperature or below – that’s about 59-77 degrees Fahrenheit.  Also avoid radiators, vents, and anything else that may emit heat like a grill.

Will light hurt vinyl records?

Vinyl records are susceptible to ultraviolet light, which can damage them within a few minutes. Avoid storing records in a bright room for these reasons.

How can I keep my vinyl records clean?

Always wash your hands before handling records. Our hands contain oils that can promote fungal growth on records and sleeves.

Also plan to handle any grooved discs (such as LPs) by the edge and label areas only. Easy to say and hard to do but worth the extra care it takes to make your records last a lifetime.
